Jesse D. Lay Elementary Return to In-Person

On March the 8th, Lay school will open 5 days a week for all students. Our staff is excited and has prepared for several months to get all students back to learning at school safely. We will ensure your child will have a safe and healthy environment each day they are here. You still have the option to continue learning at home as well. Your teacher should have contacted you to discuss both options. If you have not been contacted please call the school at (606)546-6524. Below are some reminders of how we will operate:

Students who ride a bus will be required to have their temperature checked before getting on the bus.

The doors will open to the school at 7:30 A.M. Monday through Friday.

Students who are dropped off by their parents will come around the front loop and have their temperature checked.

Students will get a boxed breakfast and go directly to their homeroom.

The official start of the school day is 7:50 A.M. and we will release buses in the afternoon at 3:15 P.M. Our Parent Pick up line will begin at 3:05 P.M. Please begin lining up at 2:45 P.M.

Students will have an assigned number that determines where they sit in the classroom, library, and special classes. This will help us for contact
tracing.

3rd-6th grade students will need to bring their charged Chromebook with them daily.

Students will be required to wear a mask while in the building, unless there is medical documentation provided.

Mask breaks will be given throughout the day.

Classroom will be cleaned and sanitized daily. Teacher will also take breaks to wipe down desks and provide hand sanitizer at transition times.

Students will be spaced out 6ft when possible. If a classroom cannot spread the students 6 ft., then students will be assigned Pods of 2-3 kids and Pods will be spaced out 6ft.

Live Virtual Sessions will be held for students that remain virtual. All sessions will be recorded an uploaded into Google Classroom.

Parents will not be allowed to enter the building to walk kids to class. If you need to come to the building, please come through the office.

We ask if at all possible, that you send your child back to school in person so that we can ensure they are learning at their highest level and will be ready to move onto the next grade level. If you choose virtual, it is expected that your child will participate and attend all live virtual sessions unless there is an emergency. We look forward to seeing all of our Amazing Students together on March 8th. We are committed to EVERY STUDENT, EVERY Day, Whatever It Takes.
