English Language Learners

The district’s implemented instructional program is designed to meet the grade level academic standards as identified in the Kentucky Core Academic Standards. Emphasis will be placed on providing students with the greatest possible access to core curriculum and afford students access to appropriate English language instruction that will ensure progress from Limited English Proficiency (LEP) to English Language Proficiency. An emphasis is placed on the WIDA English Language Development (ELD) Standards that represent the social, instructional, and academic language that students need to engage with peers, educators, and the curriculum in schools. This is done to promote college and career readiness of all EL students.

Goals

Goal 1 – an annual increase in the number or percentage of students making progress in learning English (as measured by the ACCESS Test).

Goal 2 – an annual increase in the number or percentage of students attaining English language proficiency (as measured by the ACCESS Test).

Goal 3 – adequate yearly progress for the district’s LEP and immigrant students as measured by annual Kentucky academic testing.
