Portrait of a Digital Learner
The six competencies and guiding principles of digital learning for all learners.
The Portrait of a Digital Learner serves as our district's guiding principles for empowering students and staff to navigate an evolving digital landscape.
Built on our core Portrait of a Learner, this vision outlines how our school community intentionally uses artificial intelligence and emerging technologies not as shortcuts, but as powerful tools to deepen thinking, build digital literacy, and expand learning.
Through a shared commitment to transparency, safety, and ethical responsibility, we cultivate an environment where teachers guide, students lead with integrity, and every family partners in preparing our learners to thrive in a connected world.
-
Because we believe human connections and teacher expertise are at the heart of learning, we will use AI to enhance instruction, strengthen connections, and empower Portrait of a Learner competencies.
-
Because we believe AI should foster our Portrait of a Learner competencies, we will design learning where students use AI to think more deeply, not skipping the thinking.
-
Because we believe understanding beats fear and prohibiting emerging technology is ineffective, we will educate students, faculty, staff, and families on how AI tools operate and on proper and acceptable use, AI ethics, and digital literacy, helping everyone understand both the powerful capabilities and the inherent limitations and biases of AI.
-
Because we believe families and the broader community deserve complete clarity regarding how technology is used with students, and that open communication builds trust, we will maintain transparent, open dialogue about the specific AI tools we adopt, why we use them, and both their potential benefits and challenges in education.
-
Because we believe everyone deserves a safe, supportive learning environment, we will protect privacy, use technology (AI) responsibly, and continually improve to meet our school community's needs.
-
Because we believe integrity and accountability build trust, we will model ethical behavior, promote learning, and hold ourselves and others responsible.
