Opening Day 2019

On Monday, August 5, our Knox County Public Schools family came together for the annual Opening Day assembly.  Held at Knox County Middle School, it is the one time of the year that all full-time employees hear about the district’s vision, visit with community partners, and walk away with giveaway items and with knowledge of what’s ahead in the new year.

This year’s message was focused on the Growth Mindset.  Are you fixed minded?  Do you have a growth mindset?  Do you have a growth mindset on certain things, but on other’s its fixed “because that’s the way it has always been”?

Our guest speaker, Chip Southworth, helped us think through the topic of Growth Mindset using real life examples, from his own life and experiences,  that we can apply it in the classroom, in our jobs, and throughout life.

School and district leadership previewed the presentation during a district retreat held in July.  The three-hour development workshop took the questions of fixed and growth mindset to core levels of one’s beliefs, values, and understanding.

Throughout the year ahead the district will be taking an intentional focus on the growth mindset.  Follow along on our website and the hashtag #GrowKCPS on social media.
